chronological order: arrangement by the order in which things occur; usually from past to present. In reverse chronological order, events are told from present to past
The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass is an autobiography. The book is written in chronological order multiple reasons. Because the book is the story of his life, Frederick Douglass wrote it in chronological order to show the order in which things happened and how they affected his development. By writing the book in chronological order Frederick Douglass is also able to show what approximate time periods different events in his life took place. The reader can extrapolate, from certain events, dates which Frederick Douglass is not able to give with any accuracy.
